After a great winter with a big snowpack, West Yellowstone is finally starting to feel a touch of spring. Inside Madison River Outfitters, we are busy preparing the shop for the upcoming season. New merchandise comes in every day. Our guides and shop staff are really excited about Winston's BII-MX fast action rods, Sage's extremely smooth and light ZXL series of fly rods and the new SA Sharkskin fly lines. ExOfficio's travel clothing is once again part of our fine line up of outdoor wear. After much anticipation, Bauer Rogue fly reels are in stock, and a bunch of killer new fly patterns have found their way into the fly bins. Come on in to check out our new stuff, great items on sale, get the latest advice on fishing or just replace that worn out ball cap.
Current Report
Run off continues on many of the rivers around West Yellowstone. Conditions are good on the Madison, Firehole and Gibbon inside of Yellowstone National Park. These rivers are the best bet for anglers looking for dry fly fishing as they have cleared up and have good hatches. Nymph fishing has been good on the Madison River below Quake Lake in Montana, though flows are pretty high. All of the rivers in the Northeast corner of Yellowstone are still high and dirty with snow melt. Many of the area lakes are in good shape and are great places to tangle with some large rainbows and browns.
